Well, it all depends on what t.v. shows you are watching. A lot of the shows you mentioned are sit-coms or comedies...and writers generally go for the easiest laugh which is usually gender related and sterotyped.
But there are shows that don't sterotype men as idots...CSI, House, Monk, Law and Order, dramas and shit like that.
However, the male characters are still prone to what is thought of as "man's plight"...man vs sex drive, man vs natural elements, man vs other bigger bad ass man.
A situation where a man cheats on his wife and is caught is something a general audience can relate to so the situation is repeated in t.v. shows a lot.
These sort of regurgitated plot structures don't interest me much so I avoid the majority of television shows. |
