hmm, why don't you paste the httpd.conf file s I can take a look at it and maybe see where you have gone wrong in the configuration. Also would help to know the distro your on as well. Though I have never used apache on a Linux system, I doubt the configuration is much different then it is on FreeBSD...Oh wait, my media center uses apache...i'll have to look into that just in case they are different bro. Also, I never changed the default location for the web pages though in FreeBSD they are located in /usr/local/www/apache22/data/ for webpages and /usr/local/www/apache22/cgi-bin/ for cgi based pages...either way bro, if yur able to paste your httpd.conf file, or even send it to me I'd love to look at it and see if i can figure out where you may have gone
