True if you look at consequences which do not have a life altering effect. But say the decision is whether or not to stab a person and you decide to stab them. You will spend the rest of your life recalling the factors which ultimately decided your course of action. The "what if" exists because we need what ifs.
Also your course of action and decision to go to work was your decision and based on factors which are all yours to control.
