Without piracy we'd never be moving towards the new business plan that is emerging where people release their own music to the public completely bypassing labels and RIAA and then asking people to pay what they think is fair.
Bands earn most of their money through live shows anyway. Thanks to the internet, people don't have to pay huge distribution and marketting costs that they used to depend on the labels to do.
Just last week Trent reznor released a CD on piratebay:
Saul Williams - 05 - Break.mp3 - The Pirate Bay
and a week before that radiohead released their new CD online for free (or what ever the fans wanted to give them).
It'll be like the radio except you just listen to what you want to when you want to. If you want to support the artist then pay or go to their show.
