depends on where that happiness comes from, being happy isn't a sin...indulging and placing those aspects to being happy above the welfare, concern or consideration for anything or anyone but the satisfaction of the moment is when it becomes a sin, letting those earthly desires control you, is when it becomes a dire sin, Gd understands human mess ups, it just took Him some time to come to terms with His imperfect creatures and develop a way to remedy the oversight.

piers anthony's incarnates of immortality had an amiable satan figure to, i've never read any of anne rice's vampire books and don't know how she set up the system, but piers was pretty impressive with his heaven, hell and the incarnates in between.
