They are violently homophobic and believe that pretty much all evil stems from homosexuality. They protest soldiers funerals because they believe that the soldiers are getting what they deserve fighting for a country that allows homosexuality to exist within its borders. You can't hate them, that just justifies their actions to themselves. You can't put them on the news, because thats exactly why they do this outlandish shit. And you cant act out violently against them because that martyrs them. All you can do is just ignore them.
