I have different images of Africans vs. South Africans. I think of Africans as mostly living in huts or refugee camps, prevented from forming stable societies by climatic disdvantages, political corruption, ignorance and violence. I think of South Africa as more like a European country, industrialized.
I was pretty good friends with two African people in college, and I met a South African person working at a Summer camp during that time. The two African people were from wealthy families and both studied to enter the medical field. The South African person was very free-spirited and sociable but had no money or plans for the future. |
