I never noticed any veils in this city until the recent Middle Eastern conflicts (who am I kidding, there has ALWAYS been Middle Eastern conflict- I mean until the US got involved). Now I see women wearing them most times I go out to run my errands. This makes me just a bit uncomfortable b/c it indicates to me that the person wearing the veil is just doing so out of reactionism and that she is more likely to dislike me, a non-Muslim, than a non veil-wearing person would be.
Still I'd rather people be allowed to wear/display anything except overtly offensive religious stuff than live where anything even potentially offensive had to be kept hidden. |
