"During the 19th century the Black Mass went into further decline. A London fraternal group call the Hellfire Club, in the latter part of the century, was said to perform a Black Mass regularly to worship the Devil. Although, speculation is that the ritual was little more than sexual escapades with large quantities of alcohol. In 1947, a Black Mass was performed at the graveside of Aleister Crowley, who in life thought himself the Antichrist. When the Church of Satan was founded in 1966, the Black Mass was not included among its rituals because the founder, Anton Szandor LeVey, thought the Black Mass was outmoded."

the only satanists around here, i doubt would have anything to do with a black mass; besides, they rarely post in this section of the board.
"You should tell that to most of the members of The Church Of Satan Levay Branch in SF Most of them are very well to do rich folk who are very "not" retarded"
do they go to black masses?
personally; i find the black mass idea annoying, a rumor that's been perpetuated for years making it hard for valid witches, satanists or anyone else not following a main stream belief system to carry on their practices without negative and often times insultive asociations of mayhem, sex and murder...
not to mention all the heartache and chaos it caused in the early eighties with upright honest people being persecuted for equally preposterous accusations of satan worship and black masses in their suburban basements!
that is shifting now into the ideals displayed by popular media. shows designed for entertainment are now swinging things the other way, catapulting witchcraft into a state of preposterous expectations and stereotyped glamorization...
i suppose i can't blame those like billy who call it retarded, silly or nonsense...with such, cliche knowledge still lingering around...i guess after this, i sort of have to understand their views.
even if those stereotypes don't apply to All those; who choose the title of witch, satanist or any other popular "label" when conveying their belief structure to others.
