this got me curious to understand the reason for this strike even more...while it seems most people are eager to demonize new york for them not wanting to pay transit workers...i read a few articles and actually have to agree with the idea that it is rather selfish and thoughtless for them to punish people who make less than them and don't have the luxury of a union to intercede for them...

"Bruce Gilmore, of Queens, was hoping a strike could be avoided. He only makes $10 an hour, he said, and it would cost him $15 each way to take a cab and a commuter train."

now this guy, has a genuine issue...however those who make twenty or more dollars an hour are crying foul?

"And conservatives like Galt act like these transit workers are somehow living high off the hog. As these wage rates show(a link that doesn't work) a station agent makes only $20.01 per hour, hardly amazing money in a city like New York where housing costs can run to $1600 for a single room. Better paid train operators make only $24.35 per hour-- about $50,000 per year."

now this nathan newman seems fond of them and their striking, i wonder what he makes and hour?

as much as i dislike rich politicians, i have to agree with their mayor on this sentiment

"For their own selfish reasons, the TWU has decided that their demands are more important than the law, the city and the people they serve," the mayor added. (Watch the mayor vow to hit the union hard -- 3:12)"

i could understand when our little bus system we have here went on strike, they were barely making ten dollars and hour...true, the cost of living here is lower than i imagine in new york city, but our transit workers actually make doorway pick ups, requested dropoffs and are more like a cheap community taxi than any actual transit system...

new york...go figure?
