In my experience ugly people tended not only to be ugly but also arrogant in a way the good looking kids couldnt be. In that snide fucking "i read more tolkien books than you" kind of way. They also tended to be nerds and suck at school. The honors classes in my old school were stuffed with good looking kids. The ugly kids just hung out and played with thier star wars action figures.
