Because it still falls under the "Between TWO consenting Adults" not 3 or 4. If two consenting adults want to be married I could care less. As should anyone else. Should we begin to care about what two consenting adults do to each other we may as well begin to infringe upon other rights as well.

What you describe is still one man/one woman marriage. Sanctioning gay marriage changes the whole idea of it. I don't have a rational argument against gay marriage, I'm just very reluctant to alter a cultural institution.

We altered alot of cultural institutions in our times. Women can now vote. As can Minorities. Men can no longer own other men or women. I could continue but I think you get the gist of it
In the last two hundred years the United States has been culturally superiour because we are willing to alter ourselves to better the freedoms all men and women should have. We should continue that pattern.
