And actually, you can get away with not paying taxes for quite some time. I'm a 1099 employee. I don't "do taxes" exactly. I just send the government a few hundred bucks every year. Have they come beating down my door ready to haul me off to jail? No. The majority of people that are jailed for tax evasion/fraud are those that have incomes surpassing the 6 figure mark.

Furthermore, taxes are useful. They fund such things as ROADS, SCHOOLS, LAW ENFORCEMENT.

But if you're anti-law enforcement, anti-educational opportunity, and pro-horse and cart... I suppose taxes really are a bitch.

People who are filed under 1099 dont usually get busted, thier employers do. We use this trick to nail construction companies all the time who take on mexican workers lable them 1099s and dont pay for thier social security taxes or medical insurance and refer them to the state instead. Are you an actual employee of your working establishment? If you are and you dont own your own actual little private company and are subcontracting then the people that are paying you can be nailed hard for fraud.
