I agree with your female friend. I find myself hornier than ever when I'm on my period but simply refuse to do anything about it. The reason I want it so bad is because I know that I can't fuck anyone for the entire duration of the bloody curse, that makes it "forbidden" therefore making me want it more. Yes, we are ready and wanting it badly but I don't exactly enjoy the thought of my blood, and chunks of my uterus coming into contact with my man's penis.
