That's not stictly true.
Tea doesn't contain that much caffiene, and so although it does have a mild diaretic effect, it's not enough to actually cancel out the water that the average cup of tea constitutes.
There's old folks in this country that drink nothing but tea, nothing else, ever, so although they need to drink a lot to be adequately hydrated, it still does the job in the end.
And it can help you with illness as it has antioxidents.
