It's part of the morality of war. What makes a war honorable, even when you're guaranteed to win, is the fact that we still have to send our people out to fight, and possibly die. If people don't have to risk their lives to fight a war, it will just be murder.
It will also be too easy. For America to go to war, a majority of people have to be convinced that it's worth the loss of American life. If there's no risk of losing a fellow American, possibly one you know and care about, then "war" will be declared far more frequently than it is. What the hell? If all you do is send out your robot death squads, then we'll just do that to anyone who pisses us off over any stupid little thing. |
