I agree with Sinistress about it being a release. You can sometimes get the same effect by writing in a journal. You get your thoughts out in a concrete form, whether its written or someone else has heard them and once their out there, you have to look at whatever emotional dilemma you are dealing with head on and it helps you work through it.
