If we gave anyone who didn't work $30,000 dollars a year then no one would work. You have no sense of how markets and jobs operate. In the former USSR they had massive problems in the 1970s because blue-collar wages were as high as white-collar wages and guaranteed. The result was that people didn't actually bother going to work very much, their economy spluttered and died and they lost the cold war. They are now ALL very poor.
People need incentives to work. The modern state has a duty to make sure that everyone gets by, but it should go no further. |
