I never thought I'd say this, but I only agree with thefr0g. Pretty much anything could happen at this convention that could happen at any other social gathering.... no one has complete control. But, the people who are going are the people who are willing to put up with whatever bullshit that may go down, so there's really no point in knocking the concept of having them meet each other. Besides, if you (like myself) aren't going, you have nothing to worry about. I guarantee you that when the actual convention goes down, I will be unharmed, wherever I may be.
