I read this story in my recent american and british authors class today and it was about how red china would punish adultresses. they'd roast her on this thing called heaven's lamp. they'd hang her upside down naked over a fire that barely scorched their hair and beat her with whips made out of bull penises. it took her half a day to stop screaming and a day and a half to die....

...and adulters only got their heads chopped off.
