The Satanic Bible gave rise to LaVeyan Satanism. This form of Satanism is based on materialism and self. It does not rely on Christ or the Church for existence. However, the reason for calling this philosophy "Satanism" was based on the Church's dislike for true human nature. To be truly human, you go against Christ. Traditional Satanists are devil-worshippers that need the Church and Christ to exist. In LaVeyan Satanism, the only diety is yourself if you choose a diety at all.
